Description

The portraits are early 20th century portrayals of members of the Qing Dynasty imperial court in their full regalia, complete with insignia of rank (rank badges, court necklaces, and hat finials). The figures are portrayed in a formal setting, seated on horseshoe back chairs in front of a pictorial screen.

The rosewood frames feature a relief carved design of bats (symbols of good fortune), holding a ruyi scepter, and a central “shou” (longevity) medallion. Taken together, the design can be interpreted as “bestowing wishes of good fortune and a long life”.

The reverse painted glass accent panels feature different iterations of the character “shou” (longevity).

Original brass hanging hooks in the form of lingzhi or ruyi heads.
